CULTURE, SOCIETY AND INNOVATION

In a hyperconnected world, hyperglobalized, in which consciences and hopes are forged on the network, in a complex world, in constant change, facing great challenges that affect all of humanity, we believe that cultural organizations have a fundamental role to play. They can accompany audiences through these changes, prepare and structure minds, be the crucible of societies more agile in the face of changes brought by digital technology, be the catalysts of more creative societies and more involved in their own future. Thus, in 2022, MuseumWeek will focus on the theme of "culture, society and innovation".

The global theme is about innovation and culture and we will take this opportunity to explore 6 other themes throughout the cultural ecosystem, online and offline:

June 13: #innovationMW

June 14: #creatorsMW

June 15: #freedomMW

June 16: #sexualityMW

June 17: #environmentMW

June 18: #lifeLessonsMW

June 19: #danceMW

Plural Selfie, not without my mobile

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on
Project selected in the CERCLES cultural mediation projects Call for Proposals of the Consortium of Museums of the Valencian Community

Selfie (from the English word self, 'auto' or 'oneself') is a term used to refer to photographs or videos that a person takes of themselves, alone or in company, generally with mobile phones, tablets or webcams.

And from this, we make art. Don't you believe it? You just have to browse through this video that the participants of the MACA Parking Club 2018 project carried out jointly and, above all, "plural", conducted by Extrarradio. Because any excuse is good to let yourself go, to flow, to create...

But don't stay looking from the other side!

Take a SELFIE in a place in your house that tells something about you, share it with us at the email comunicacion@maca-alicante.es or on Instagram @macaalicante and with all the ones received and, above all, "plural" we will put together a PLURAL SELFIE – NOT WITHOUT MY MOBILE

MACA ParkingClub Action. "Plural Selfie-Not Without My Mobile" by Ester García and Juan Diego Cerdá from Extrarradio.

Museum Day 2020

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on

Alicante celebrates the eighth edition of International Museum Day online.

The City Council, the Provincial Council, Aguas de Alicante, the University and The Ocean Race Museum propose this year an online edition, due to the current situation of closure of museums and cultural centers due to COVID-19.

Twelve exhibition centers in Alicante come together for the eighth consecutive year to celebrate a new edition of Museum Day in the city, on the occasion of International Museum Day (IMD). On this occasion, and due to the exceptional situation, the MACA, Las Cigarreras, the MUSA, the Exhibition Room of the Fish Market, the Nativity Museum, and the New Tabarca Museum (on behalf of the City Council), the Mubag, Marq and the Juan Gil-Albert Institute (on behalf of the Provincial Council), The Ocean Race Museum, the MUA (on behalf of the University) and the Alicante Water Museum, have prepared programming for all audiences, which can be enjoyed online.

Following the successful participation of last year, with 16,193 visitors, the organizers hope that, despite the change in format, participation will be massive.

Every year since 1977, ICOM organizes International Museum Day, an exceptional moment for the international museum community.

The objective of International Museum Day (IMD) is to raise awareness that museums are an important means for cultural exchange, the enrichment of cultures, as well as for the development of mutual understanding, collaboration and peace among peoples. Organized each May 18 or around that date for more than 40 years, the events and activities planned to celebrate IMD can last a day, a weekend or even an entire week. More and more museums around the world are participating in this global celebration: last year 37,000 museums participated in the event in 158 countries and territories.

This year's theme is: "Museums for Equality: Diversity and Inclusion." With the theme "Museums for Equality: Diversity and Inclusion," International Museum Day 2020 #IMD2020 aims to become a meeting point to celebrate the diversity of perspectives that shape museum communities and staff, as well as to promote tools to identify and overcome biases in what museums display and in the stories they tell.

International Museum Day 2020 Goes Digital

Despite the current situation of widespread pandemic, #IMD2020 will be celebrated through the organization of digital and online activities. For those who wish to organize on-site activities, we propose an alternative date: a three-day celebration between November 14, coinciding with the Long Night of Museums, and the 74th anniversary of ICOM, November 16, 2020

The communication proposals for Digital IMD 2020 have been made by 4th year students of the Degree in Advertising and Public Relations: Álvaro Fuentes Lledó, Carolina González Valencia, Lourdes Ros Buendía, David Sabater Zamorano and María Vila García, within the context of the subject Production and Realization in Print Media; and coordinated by the professors: Ana Isabel Ibáñez Hernández and Lydia Girón Plaza. and coordinated by the professors: Ana Isabel Ibáñez Hernández and Lydia Girón Plaza.

Thank you all.

The Night

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on
Laboratory of Letters and Images. October 2025

Although traditionally the night can be associated with darkness and the unknown, in children's play it acquires positive and creative dimensions. Mystery, adventure, fears, imagination and magic, introspection, transformation, connection with the universe, time of secrets and whispers. The night is linked to another powerful symbol for childhood: the moon.

The tree

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on
Laboratory of letters and images. September 2025

The Letters and Images Laboratories are an original model of activity within the programming of cultural spaces. These laboratories are a field of learning and discovery and an opportunity to showcase high-quality books both for what they tell and how they tell it. These laboratories unite play, reading and creativity.

It is a space for creation that invites experimentation around reading understood in the broadest sense of the term: reading with all the senses, the reading of images and sounds, literary creation as play and poetic imagination as an artistic form.

THE TREE: The tree is one of the richest and most recurring symbols in children's literature, laden with meanings that connect with emotions, nature and children's experiences. Its symbolism ranges from the protective and ancestral to the magical and transformative. It symbolizes wisdom, shelter, challenge, meeting point and community, strength and resilience, roots represent family, the cycles of life and so much more. The symbol of the tree is immense.

Lights and Shadows. Kara Walker

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on
Laboratory of Letters and Images. June 2025

This story laboratory for playing with lights and shadows was created on the occasion of Kara Walker's Burning Village exhibition at MACA.

Based on her work—known for the use of black silhouettes cut out of paper—, we explore together with girls, boys and their families themes such as racism, identity and gender, through illustrated books and artistic creation.

The activity is structured in three parts:

A selection of books on anti-racism, adapted to different ages, which helps us contextualize the content of Walker's work.

A selection of books about shadows and silhouettes, which brings us closer to her visual and aesthetic language.

A space for play and creation, where we experiment with silhouettes on a light table and create a collective stop-motion animation with black cardboard cutouts.

A proposal to read, create and reflect from childhood about the power of images and the stories that build memory.

Books and stories about dreams

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on
Laboratory of Letters and Images. May 2025

Welcome to the Laboratory of Letters and Images: Books and Stories about Dreams, a unique space where books invite us to dream. Through creative readings, we discover how dreams represent desires, fantasies, and imagination. Join this journey with activities such as creating dream amulets with balloons, full of messages and colors. A laboratory for dreaming and enjoying the magic of books! The dream, a symbol of the subconscious, is associated with desires, fantasy, and surrealist imagination. In many cultures, dreams are also considered bearers of messages or omens, and can symbolize the connection with the spiritual or the unknown. It can also remind us of the warm moment before going to sleep: the bedtime story and the lullaby that precedes sleep.

Books about the senses

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on
Laboratory of Letters and Images. April 2025

In this Laboratory María Maraña immerses us in a multisensory literary journey, with a selection of books that explore the senses in creative and surprising ways.

From the in-person laboratory, where concepts such as synesthesia and kinesthesia were addressed, to the online version focused on touch, we discover how the sensory world can be enriched through literature.

In addition to reviewing works such as The Dance of Hands or The Forest, the article invites us to explore new forms of tactile connection through illustrated albums and the creation of sensory fabric books, opening a space where art, the senses, and imagination converge.

An inspiring proposal to discover the power of touch and creativity in children's literature.

Books with anaglyphs

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on
Laboratory of Letters and Images. March 2025

Can you imagine reading a book and discovering that, with some simple colored glasses, the images come to life? That is precisely what happens with anaglyphic books, a unique proposal that combines art, technology, and literature to create surprising visual experiences.

These books not only tell stories, but they invite us to interact with them, exploring hidden images that seem to jump off the page. There are many albums that invite us to discover hidden images with color filters. These "magic filters" sometimes come in the form of viewers, other times they have the shape of a magnifying glass or glasses. They are generally blue and red and work by erasing red ink from our view and highlighting blue ink or vice versa. In this way, a visual effect is created that makes parts of the drawing appear and disappear, causing amazement and surprise in the person reading.

But today we want to go a little further and discover the ANAGLYPHIC EFFECT. There are few books designed with this 3D effect, but the ones that exist are amazing.

In this article we explain what anaglyphs are, how red-blue filters work to create this 3D effect, and why these works are true gems for those seeking something more than reading: they want to discover, be surprised, and play with reading!

They are flexible books that invite us to creativity, to share stories aloud, to "hack" their initial reading proposal to invent other ways of reading.

MYRIORAMAS.

Myrioramas are a type of illustrated book that consists of a series of images or scenes printed on independent cards, which can be combined in different ways to create landscapes or visual narratives. Each image can be placed next to all the others; it doesn't matter in what order you put them, they will always match and create a panoramic image that makes sense. This allows an "infinite game" of creating scenes and stories, by allowing us to combine the cards in so many ways.

The term "myriorama" comes from the Greek "myrios", which means "countless" or "innumerable", and "orama", which refers to a view or panorama. This type of book became popular in the nineteenth century and was used for both entertainment and education.

Sculptural Books

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on
Laboratory of letters and images. February 2025

Interacting with sculptural books is a unique and fascinating experience.

A sculptural book invites the reader to explore not only its content, but also its form and structure.

The reader can touch, turn, and manipulate the book, which creates a physical and emotional connection with the work. Often, these books are designed to be very visual, which can inspire curiosity to discover more about the story or ideas they convey.

Furthermore, interaction with this type of books is freer and more creative; the reader can choose how to approach the work, whether by reading the text, observing the images, or simply enjoying the sculptural form.

A sculptural book transforms reading into a multisensory experience that invites exploration and reflection.

It's like an artistic and literary journey at the same time! In this Laboratory, María Maraña immerses us in a multisensory literary journey, with a selection of books that explore the senses in creative and surprising ways.
