Ecosystems

MACA is a living and dynamic museum, which is why the educational team has offered complementary activities since its inception to showcase the creative processes and references of contemporary art. Each year the museum renews its proposals for the different levels of formal education. These are projects related to the permanent collections and temporary exhibitions. The ultimate goal of the different proposals is to promote the construction of a critical perspective, learn to observe the works, enjoy the information that can be useful for understanding and appreciating each piece, and have the necessary keys so that each student can face contemporary art without inhibitions.

Since its opening, the museum's educational team has committed to inclusive education. Throughout the year, multiple projects are developed for attention to diversity and social awareness, whose purpose has been and is to promote effective integration and real accessibility for all to art, culture, and the museum. To this end, the museum regularly organizes programs, projects, guided visits, and workshops for groups with physical, psychological, sensory, intellectual, or mental functional diversity, as well as for groups in situations of social vulnerability.

We are fully convinced that attention to all audiences should be a priority, and in that way we plan and organize educational activities in order to serve all people.

All projects are developed and directed by museum educator and mediator Ester García Guixot.

Summer at the MACA: Summer in Harlem 2025

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on

SUMMER IN HARLEM

During this summer, the museum has opened its doors to a unique experience of learning, creation, and reflection around African American art, within the framework of the exhibition dedicated to the renowned artist Kara Walker. This summer school has had as its central axis the fundamental contributions of African American visual artists of the 20th and 21st centuries, whose work has profoundly transformed the landscape of contemporary art.

The figure of Kara Walker, with her provocative silhouettes that dialogue with the legacy of slavery and racial stereotypes, has been the starting point for a journey through the work of artists such as Mickalene Thomas and Lorna Simpson. Through their portraits, collages, and visual narratives, these artists have offered us a window into the complexity and richness of the African American experience.

This program has also been proposed as a space for critical analysis, where the connections between Kara Walker's work and historical movements such as the Harlem Renaissance have allowed us to explore how art can be a means of denunciation, resistance, and social transformation. Both Walker and the artists of that renaissance share the will to address the past from a critical perspective, in order to imagine a more just and inclusive future.

-Week 1: from June 30 to July 4. Artists: Aaron Douglas, Faith Ringgold, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Lorna Simpson,

-Week 2: from July 7 to 11. Artists: Alma Thomas, Mickalene Thomas, Simone Leigh, Romare Bearden, Deborah Roberts,

-Week 3: from July 14 to 18. Artists: Hank Willis Thomas, Howardena Pindell, Louis Mailou Jones, Jacob Lawrence,

-Week 4: from July 21 to 24. Artists: Ellen Gallagher, Dindga McCannon, Dindga McCannon, Kara Walker.

Summer at the MACA: Must-Sees 2024

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on

The 2024 summer school edition focused on exploring in depth the contemporary artists present in the MACA collections. They are established creators whose names are part of the history of contemporary art. This approach made it possible to discover multiple perspectives, especially from a gender perspective, with special attention to those artists who have worked with textiles, highlighting the richness and relevance of textile art.

The works we had the opportunity to discover reflect a deep commitment to art, thought, and aesthetic reflection. Through various formal and visual investigations, they offer a critical and sensitive analysis of the reality surrounding us.

During the four weeks of the program, we explored the diversity of contemporary artistic practice, represented in a wide variety of media: drawing, sculpture, painting, graphic work, photography, installation, artist's book, and video.

Furthermore, as a cross-cutting theme, we worked with the figure of Eusebio Sempere, an undisputed reference at MACA both for his work and his life trajectory. Each week we delved into his creative universe through different techniques, with special emphasis on screen printing, a discipline in which he was a pioneer and key figure in Spain. Inspired by this artist, school participants printed their own t-shirt with this year's motto, turning the experience into an exercise in practical learning and direct connection with the artistic tradition that Sempere represents.

WEEK 1: July 1-5: Artists: Eduardo Chillida, Teresa Lanceta, Eduardo Arroyo, Sonia Delaunay

WEEK 2: July 8-12. Artists: Joan Miró, Anni Albers and Paul Klee

WEEK 3: July 15-19. Artists: Hilma Af Klint, Judit Scoot, Jean Arp

WEEK 4: July 22-26. Artists: Yayoi Kusama, Juana Francés, José Guerrero.

you will not forget your firstREVOLUTION at MACA

The 2023 summer school focused on getting to know in depth the contemporary artists present in the Moving Forward looking back exhibition, inaugurated on June 16 until October 15, 2023 at MACA. An exhibition that was born from the Contemporary Art Collection of Michael Jenkins and Javier Romero and which, in an extremely generous manner, they donated to the Museum in 2021.

The exhibition was made up of established artists whose names are part of the history of contemporary art alongside other younger artists who have served as references, from different nationalities, races and geographies, who coexist in a normalized way, giving the exhibition great variety and multiple points of view.

The works that we had the opportunity to know are born from a deep commitment to art, to thought and aesthetic reflections and which, from very different formal and visual investigations, offer an analysis of the surrounding reality.

During the 4 weeks we approached the diversity of the practice of modern and contemporary artists represented in a wide variety of artistic media including: drawings, sculpture, painting, graphic work, photography, installation, artist's book and video.

"Color is a power which directly influences the soul." Wassily Kandinsky. Concerning the Spiritual in Art, 1911.

FOUR-COLOR PRINTING AT THE MACA is an adventure for the summer, a journey of initiation, it is a 4-week expedition around the world of color and the emotions it provokes in us.

In this chromatic expedition we experiment with color as a means of expressing feelings and concerns, as a technique for creation and innovation, as play, as learning.

The color of emotions. The color of art. Light and darkness. Warm colors. Cool ones. Separating colors, combining them. 4 weeks experimenting with cyan, magenta, yellow and black.

We discover color in the works housed in the museum's collections and how it has been used by different artistic movements from the 20th century to the present day.

As artists, we create our own works based on everything that colors transmit and suggest to us: smells, tastes, sounds or textures. And all of this in a motivating, participatory context, fostering a new, critical perspective that inspires children and helps them develop their creative thinking.

"All children are born artists. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up." Pablo Picasso

Week 1: July 2-6. Yellow

Week 2: July 9-13. Cyan

Week 3: July 16-20. Magenta

Week 4: July 23-27. Black

Summer at the MACA: L'École del MACA 2017

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on

Summer has arrived!

Once again this year, MACA, Museum of Contemporary Art of Alicante,

launches a new edition of the SUMMER AT MACA 2017 Workshops.

This year with the title L'ÉCOLE DEL MACA

As every July, we propose "summer workshops" inspired by Contemporary Art, with the aim of promoting Creativity and Expressivity, based on a perspective that is at the same time educational and recreational.

Summer at MACA: L'ÉCOLE DEL MACA seeks the development of

imagination and artistic initiative of the participants, as well as the

improvement of communication skills in different forms of

expression. In this way and at the same time, we want to enhance

aesthetic sensitivity and appreciation of artistic manifestations and contemporary cultural heritage.

MACA wants to transform itself into an Artistic Creation Center as Milan, Paris, Berlin and New York were, where different ISMS or artistic movements as important as Cubism, Surrealism, Futurism, Expressionism and a long etcetera were born...

This year participants will be able to form their avant-garde artistic

movement according to their interests, create their own manifesto and

of course their Works of Art.

Do you know what an ISM is? And an artistic manifesto?

Manifesto: a written statement of an artistic movement to express or

defend a program considered revolutionary or innovative with

respect to what is established.

We become avant-garde artists to create, imagine, express and invent a different art.

Week 1: July 3-7: MANIFESTO 1 Innovation, Rupture, Word, Group...

Week 2: July 10-14: MANIFESTO 2 Revolution, Commitment, Concerns, Knowledge...

Week 3: July 17-21: MANIFESTO 3 Style, Expression, Leaders, Technology...

Week 4: July 24-28: MANIFESTO 4 Experimentation, Change, School, Belonging...

Summer at the MACA: And collection 2016

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on

As we do every July, we propose a cycle of "summer workshops" inspired by Contemporary Art, with the aim of promoting Creativity and Expressivity, based on a perspective that is at the same time educational and playful.

Summer at MACA: AND COLE- COLLECTION... seeks to develop the imagination and artistic initiative of participants, as well as improve communication skills in different forms of expression. In this way and at the same time, we want to enhance aesthetic sensitivity and appreciation of artistic manifestations and cultural heritage. Through a tour of the practical and aesthetic aspects of the authors and works exhibited at MACA, participants will be able to learn about Contemporary Art issues through their own experimentation.

Have you ever collected anything? Why? Do you know how a collection is built and what we need for it?

A collection is a set of things, generally of the same class and arranged in an orderly manner.

Week 1: July 4 to 8: COLLECTION 1 Curiosities, exotic objects, uncommon, unique...

Week 2: July 11 to 15: COLLECTION 2 Searches, explorations, travels, encounters, experiences, lived experiences...

Week 3: July 18 to 22: COLLECTION 3 Emotions, imagination, investigations, perceptions...

Week 4: July 25 to 29: COLLECTION 4 Ideas, words, messages, symbols, codes...
