The Women in Visual Arts (MAV) association convenes 3 debate sessions, the first in Valencia, then in Castellón and the last in Alicante under the title "Rethinking exhibitions by women artists". Its objective is to share opinions and experiences of artists and professionals in the sector on the best way to make women artists' work public and achieve greater balance in the exhibition programming of museums and art centers.
The cycle will consist of three sessions and will feature prominent women artists, researchers and curators from the art world to open the debates: Amparo Carbonell, artist and curator, Alba Braza, cultural manager, Isabel Oliver, artist and Gema Del Rey Jordà, moderator, on October 25 at the Centre Cultural La Nau in Valencia; Assumpta Bassas, curator of artistic and educational projects, artist Julia Galán, MACVAC director Rosalía Torrent and Nerea Bella, moderator, on November 11 at the Llotja de Cànem in Castelló, and finally, Rosa Castells, conservator of MACA, Rocío de la Villa, curator, Paloma Navares, artist and Sofía Albero Verdú moderates the debate, on November 23 at MACA.
"Rethinking exhibitions by women artists" is the first edition of DebatsMAV, an initiative with a vocation for continuity that seeks to generate in our Community an open space for reflection accessible to citizens to promote equality and recognition of women's contributions to art history. The association has the support of the Vice-presidency and Ministry of Equality and Inclusive Policies (Generalitat Valenciana) for this first edition. Created in 2009, Women in Visual Arts has 95 members in the Valencian Community and 856 at the national level from various fields of the art world: artists, curators, researchers, cultural managers, educators, gallery owners, specialized journalists, publishers, designers, critics, collectors, architects, etc.
The association works as a non-profit entity and in a horizontal manner to achieve its main objective: to promote real and effective equality between women and men within the cultural sector and compliance with the Equality Law. To this end, it promotes collaborative work among its members, while defending from feminist activism our rights and common projects, supporting and making visible those initiatives that contribute to women being an active and empowered part in a democratic, equitable and diverse society.
