Touring Santa Cruz

Mythology. February 2025

The oldest neighborhood in Alicante is a labyrinth. It is a collection of houses once inhabited by farmers, fishermen, and pirates!, with a castle at the top. It is full of stairs, ramps, turns, viewpoints… and flower pots, neighbors, and whitewashed walls. We will explore it map in hand to locate fantastic beings that guard secrets, bother tourists, and put the neighbors' kittens to sleep. Fabulín accompanies us with his sign at the ready: "Excuse the inconvenience, we are fabulating the city." Tourists take photos with him, and we hope that the neighbors who sit at their doorsteps take our presence in good spirits, as they already have enough with so many tourists photographing everything in their path. In our search we play with scale to imagine those fantastic beings, dwarves and giants among the flower pots and viewpoints of the neighborhood, and we do it through the intervention of black and white photos that we carry with us: and thus we manage to see those "Dimonis" that steal socks, keys, and light bulbs; basketball players in the highest places!; metal butterflies that care for the kittens; princesses that float above the city's domes, and alien dogs on unidentified flying flower pots.

Pamen Pereira + Pous de Garrigós Mitolatory. December 2024

Mythology. December 2024

We invite you to take a walk through Pamen Pereira's website and discover her symbolic universe. You will see that her work has a strong poetic and philosophical charge, with recurring elements such as fire, bones, bird wings…elements that connect nature, spirituality and transformation. STONE DREAMS. This is the name we have given to this session 0, a pilot session to activate the collaborative map of new contemporary myths: our MYTHATORY.

We gather in the museum hall to begin the adventure. We are around 15 families, about 30-40 people of all ages. What excitement! some families approach to share the curiosity they feel about the project. They come with hope and enthusiasm, sensing that they are required to be active and participatory.

The MACA Walking Mitolatory. November 2024

Mythology. November 2024

MITOLATORIO began its journey in April 2020. During the pandemic, it functioned as a digital collaborative map of contemporary myths. It was a way to stay connected with the outside world, redefining public space from our homes.

In 2024 we resumed the project, this time adding in-person meetings to redefine public space as a group. To carry it out, we have the support of MACA, the city's contemporary art museum. We linked ourselves to the museum by taking its exhibition content (the works from its collections and its temporary exhibitions) as the starting point for our open process of fabulation.

In this Mitolatorio 2.0, we selected works that suggest to us that fictional seed and that open an interesting debate by putting them in relation with urban space and its landmarks. The mediation of the works and places is based on carrying out creative actions with them as objects, to promote critical and expanded observation of the work and subjective, bodily, and also critical exploration of urban space.

To the significant power of the work-place binomial, we thus add two contributions: that of the mediated plastic creation practices from María Maraña's workshops and laboratories, and that of the proprioceptive exploration techniques and identity fabulation from Sergi Hernández's interactive practices.

In charge of Ester García de Extrarradio.

A kind of journey, from the bottom of the sea to the sky, with the circle and the rectangle as essential geometric figures. A workshop inspired by the work of COLEC-002 where children will travel as far as their imagination allows them to build kites with underwater landscapes.

White Night 2018

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on

Alicante proposes the White Night year after year, with an attractive cultural offering. The initiative is jointly organized by the city's museums and art centers. The proposal that emerges from several meetings between technicians from different museums is to celebrate the first edition of the White Night in Alicante on July 20, 2015, with an attractive offer of activities. The purpose is to enjoy contemporary artistic creation through different activities and free cultural events, thus promoting citizen participation. In Spain, this initiative is developed in cities such as Madrid, Burgos, Málaga, Albacete and Barcelona, to which others have been added such as La Laguna, Badajoz, Teguise, Alcalá de Henares, Zaragoza, Nerja, Seville, Almería, Cáceres, Oviedo and Granada.

With this purpose, Alicante proposes the White Night year after year, with an attractive cultural offering. The initiative is jointly organized by the city's museums and art centers: MARQ Archaeological Museum, MACA Museum of Contemporary Art of Alicante, MUBAG Gravina Fine Arts Museum, MUA Museum of the University of Alicante, Las Cigarreras, Volvo Ocean Race Museum, Museum of Waters of Alicante, Exhibition Hall of the Fish Market, Juan Gil Albert Institute of Culture, and MUSA, Alicante City Museum. The project aims to bring together all types of public and private cultural initiatives, promote the participation of Alicante residents, individually or collectively, and suggests rediscovering the city with the opening of different spaces that are not usually accessible to the public at night. Museum Day 2018

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on

Since 1977, International Museum Day is celebrated every year around the world on May 18th. From America to Oceania, passing through Europe, Asia and Africa, International Museum Day is an opportunity to raise public awareness about the role of museums in the development of society.

The theme for International Museum Day 2018, as determined by ICOM this year, will focus on "Hyperconnected Museums. New Approaches, New Audiences".

In an increasingly connected world, it is impossible to understand the role of museums without taking into account all the connections they establish. They are an inherent part of their local communities, their cultural landscape and their natural environment. Technology allows museums to reach beyond their usual audience through something as simple as a hashtag. Some museums don't even need technology to create new connections; for them, presenting their collection in a different and innovative way is enough to attract a completely new audience.

International Museum Day 2018 is an opportunity for all museums in the world to seek new approaches and new audiences through the analysis, strengthening and creation of connections.
