Synapsis, Inclusive Dance and Performing Arts

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on

The Synapsis project, Inclusive Dance and Performing Arts, is an initiative of the Ruedapies Inclusive Dance Association, directed by Marisa Brugarolas together with Alicia Esteve and Luis Martínez, and promoted by the Culture Department of Alicante, Las Cigarreras and MACA with the support of the Art for Change program of the "la Caixa" Foundation.

Synapsis is an artistic-educational, inclusive and participatory project aimed at people with and without functional diversity over 18 years old to create a space for dialogue between contemporary culture and the personal and group experiences of the participants.

Through workshops in expressive movement, dance and interdisciplinary performative action, participants will approach active knowledge of their expressive capacities, using participatory strategies in which they will become active agents of their own knowledge. The personal and group transformation sought will come from placing their personalized movement and artistic expression in real and imaginary spaces that dialogue with their perception of the world, with art, with their inner and outer space, and with the group itself. With all the material generated, a unique performative work will be created arising from the appropriation of the work of art and appreciation of their experience and expression through the body and movement. This group dialogue will be generated through an interdisciplinary language in which contemporary dance as expressive movement, gesture, visual arts and music will intervene.

In this participatory, interdisciplinary and inclusive creative activity, people with functional diversity will be creative agents, and not mere reproducers of a given culture, thus promoting a social, empowering and lasting transformation over time.

The workshops, exhibitions and closing event will take place at the Las Cigarreras Cultural Center and at MACA from February 14 to June 10.

The professionals

A team of professionals in these areas will be in charge of guiding the workshops and interdisciplinary exhibitions open to the public, in which people with and without diversity will participate: Marisa Brugarolas, artistic director and teacher of the Synapsis project, is a choreographer, teacher and researcher of interdisciplinary and pedagogical inclusive processes. Director of Ruedapies Inclusive Dance since 2005, where she has directed extensive choreographic creation associated with artistic and training projects. She holds a doctorate in arts and extraordinary award from the Polytechnic University of Valencia, with the thesis The Plural Body. Integrated Dance in Inclusion. A Renewal of Perspective. Master's degree in Interdisciplinary Arts, San Francisco State University, awarded a Fulbright Foundation scholarship. Graduate in Integrated Arts and specialist in Somatic Movement at Moving On Center, Oakland, California. Graduate in Dramatic Art from the Superior School of Dramatic Art of Murcia.

Her work combines pedagogical research and scenic creation, participating in festivals and spaces for contemporary art and performance in Spain, the United States, Italy, the Netherlands, Costa Rica and El Salvador. Director of the inclusive dance project Corpo in Divenire, at the Royal Academy of Spain in Rome. She has collaborated in the implementation of the inclusive curriculum of the Dance Master's program at the National University of Costa Rica and at the Superior Conservatory of Dance in Alicante. Speaker at multiple congresses and seminars such as the IX Conferences on Social Inclusion and Education in the Performing Arts INAEM. In 2019 she receives the award from the II International Congress of Art and Diversity in recognition of her trajectory and work in the Arts and diversity.

Currently she combines her artistic work at Ruedapies with teaching as a specialist in Dance and functional diversity in the Dance Pedagogy degree at the Superior Conservatory of Dance in Alicante, while also being a research member of the RediArt XXI group at Carlos III University of Madrid.

Alicia Esteve, teacher of the Synapsis project, graduate in Fine Arts from the Polytechnic University of Valencia and awarded Erasmus and Leonardo scholarships in Venice, Italy, where she had the opportunity to perfect her artistic studies in Anatomy. She participates in numerous individual and collective painting exhibitions in various Spanish and foreign cities, such as Venice, New York or Miami, obtaining various awards and recognitions. In 2021 she completed her studies in Contemporary Dance Pedagogy at the Superior Conservatory of Dance in Alicante. For some years she has directed her professional steps towards the teaching and practice of Yoga, completing a teaching degree at the international ETY Viniyoga school. Her growing interest in anatomy, introspection and artistic expression has led her to the world of Contemporary Dance and currently she combines the teaching of Painting with that of Yoga and Contemporary Dance in various centers.

Luis Martínez, teacher of the Synapsis project, trained as a Classical Ballet dancer at the Professional Conservatory of Dance in Novelda and later completed his Higher Studies in Contemporary Dance Pedagogy at the Superior Conservatory of Dance in Alicante, expanding his academic knowledge with an Erasmus scholarship at the Superior School of Dance in Lisbon. In parallel, he trained in Theater with the Carasses Company, of which he has been a permanent member since 2008. For his work in the company he has been awarded as best lead and supporting actor in different competitions at the national level. His artistic concerns lead him to become involved in the research of the performing arts, with the intention of contributing new territories in the field of dance, venturing into paths such as pedagogical research, inclusion through art or diversity and therefore of artistic disciplines in general, taking into account the ambiguity and multidisciplinarity of the creative processes in which our society is immersed today.

EVERYONE MACA does not give up.

And if it doesn't give up, it's because of you. Every year we set ourselves the challenge of organizing these multidisciplinary artistic events with the aim of making visible and empowering people with functional diversity.

And we know that it shouldn't have to be necessary. We know that all people, regardless of their class, category or condition, should have the right and freedom to be part of the usual creative processes, of the artistic circuits, and to be present in all educational centers, in all professional spaces and in every stratum of this society.

It should be an absolutely normalized matter. But it isn't. It still isn't. That's why we return, year after year, with the same enthusiasm and the same determination that we have maintained since 2017, when we celebrated the first edition of this meeting of interaction, emotion and inclusion that has as its headquarters and epicenter the Museum of Contemporary Art of Alicante (MACA). The official reason, of course, is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities celebrated every December 3rd. But we work every day, unrelenting, so that full inclusion becomes a reality.

We celebrate days of accessible and inclusive activities on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

Through TODOS MACA we aim to bring contemporary art closer to ALL types of audiences, thereby fostering interest in culture, the arts, participation, creativity and respect. The idea is to build bridges between people, and to transform our differences, our diversity, rather than an obstacle or a communication barrier, into an opportunity for mutual learning and collective creation. We all contribute if we all participate.

The TODOS MACA program consists of numerous artistic and cultural activities distributed throughout the first week of December, turning the museum into a privileged space to awaken the genius of a spectator unfamiliar with the art world, establishing a dialogue with the public and inserting the museum into the social fabric of the city to become a place FOR ALL.

ALL MACA

When these December dates arrive, when the days are shorter and colder, we have more desire than ever. The year is ending, but passion prevails. And it is precisely this overflowing passion, this need to go far, to step outside the guidelines and break away from the marked paths that pushes us to organize, once again, this TOD@S MACA: wonderful multidisciplinary artistic events with the aim of making visible and empowering people with disabilities.

And we return with the same objectives as always because, unfortunately, it is still necessary to work on this: that all people can participate in the usual creative processes, in the artistic circuits, and be present in all educational centers, in all professional spaces and in every stratum of this society. We seek social, political and human equidistance. Something that has not yet arrived for many reasons. And as long as that "yet" remains, we will be here, once again since 2017, celebrating these meetings and exchanges full of emotion and inclusion at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Alicante (MACA) around the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which is celebrated every December 3rd.

With TOD@S MACA what we seek is to bring contemporary art closer to ALL types of audiences, thus fostering interest in culture, the arts, participation, creativity and respect for all groups and strata of citizenship. The idea is to build bridges between people, and to make our differences, our diversity, instead of an obstacle or a communication barrier, an opportunity for mutual learning, for collective creation. We all add up if we all participate.

The TOD@S MACA program consists of numerous artistic and cultural activities, in which we will transform the museum into a privileged space to awaken the genius of a spectator unfamiliar with the art world, establishing a dialogue with the public and inserting the museum into the social fabric of the city to become a place FOR ALL.

TOD@S MACA is not specifically aimed at a social group. It is not exclusive to people with disabilities or social exclusion. The target audience for these events is ALL OF SOCIETY. We could hardly build a more inclusive, tolerant and empathetic world if we do not count on the people who make it up. That is why the program of activities does not understand specific groups: it is open to all people.

TODOS MACA does not give up.

And if it does not give up, it is for you. Every year we set ourselves the

challenge of organizing these multidisciplinary artistic events with the

objective of making visible and empowering people with functional diversity.

And we know that it should not have to be necessary. We know that all

people, regardless of their class, category or condition, should have the

right and freedom to be part of the usual creative processes,

of the artistic circuits, and to be present in all educational centers,

It continues not to be. That is why we return, one more year, with the same

enthusiasm and the same obstinacy that we have maintained since 2017, when

we celebrated the first edition of this meeting of interaction, emotion

and inclusion that has as its headquarters and epicenter the Museum of Contemporary

Art of Alicante (MACA). The official reason, of course, is the

International Day of Persons with Disabilities celebrated every December 3rd.

But we work every day, uncompromisingly, so that full inclusion becomes a reality.

TODOS MACA is an invitation for ALL PEOPLE to

approach and discover contemporary art, thus fostering

interest in the arts, citizen participation, social justice,

creative empowerment and, above all, interpersonal respect.

Cultural democratization is one of our main causes. And as a

consequence, it is our aim to build bridges between people, and

to make our differences, our diversity, instead of an

obstacle or a communicative impediment, an opportunity for

mutual learning, for collective creation. We all contribute if we all

participate. There is no other possibility.

The programming of this edition of TODOS MACA is structured based on

numerous artistic and cultural activities distributed throughout the

first week of December, transforming the museum into a

meaningful space to awaken the genius of a spectator unfamiliar with the world of

art, establishing a dialogue with the public and inserting the museum into the

social fabric of the city to become a place for,

we insist, EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THE PEOPLE that make up

society.

One more year, we continue working tirelessly to make the MACA, Museum of Contemporary Art of Alicante, accessible for EVERYONE. In this year 2023 we celebrate the seventh edition of TOD@S MACA, artistic and multidisciplinary events with the purpose of making visible and empowering people with disabilities. Our objective persists because, unfortunately, it is still necessary: we want all people to be able to participate in usual creative processes, access artistic circuits and be present in all educational and professional fields, promoting social, political and human equity. As long as this need for change exists, we will be here, one more year since 2017, celebrating these encounters and exchanges filled with emotion and inclusion at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Alicante around the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which is celebrated every December 3rd. With TOD@S MACA our purpose is to bring contemporary art closer to a diverse audience, fostering interest in culture, the arts, participation, creativity and respect towards all sectors of society. We want to build bridges between people, turning our differences and diversities into opportunities for mutual learning and collective creation. Everyone contributes if everyone participates. The TOD@S MACA program offers numerous artistic and cultural activities during the weekend of December 1st, 2nd and 3rd, 2023, transforming the museum into a space to awaken the interest of spectators from all backgrounds and establishing a dialogue with the public to integrate the museum into the social life of the city, making it accessible FOR ALL PEOPLE. TOD@S MACA is not directed exclusively at a particular social group. It is not exclusive to people with disabilities or in situations of social exclusion. Our target audience is ALL OF SOCIETY. We cannot build a more inclusive, tolerant and empathetic world without counting on all the people who make it up. That is why the program of activities is open to everyone, without distinction. If you have made it this far and this dossier is before your eyes again, it is because we count on you again so that, for the seventh year, it is a success of involvement, participation and emotion. Because WE ARE ALL CREATORS. Because CULTURE must be for everyone and for all PEOPLE.
