[Blasco, Isidro]
He studied Fine Arts at the Faculty of Madrid, directing his artistic activity towards sculpture. In the mid-nineties, he moved to North America, where he exhibits regularly in New York. His work is highly valued and his pieces are in prestigious museums such as the Whitney and the MOMA.
Although much has evolved since his first sculptures, generally made with wooden boards, to his recent deconstructions of architectural spaces in which he integrates flat supports with photographic images, the coherence of his trajectory remains evident, which we could summarize in two fundamental issues: on one hand, the constructive character of his works; from the simplest to the most complex forms, the structural framework and/or its surface coating is evident. On the other, the connection of that constructive spirit with architecture, with the concept of home, with the domestic.
854W181st#3G, LRC-IV, a complex title that refers to a specific location of a dwelling, is a magnificent piece well representative of his most recent works. With great economy of means: some plywood sheets, some screws and carpenter's jacks and some photographs, Isidro Blasco unfolds three-dimensionally and expressively the cubic space of an apartment. The multiplicity of viewpoints, the fragmentation, the premeditated visual disarticulation, the rupture of spatial continuity, the constructive nakedness... clearly summarize this sculptural drift of architectural deconstruction.
