[Marco Saturnino, Angels]
Born in Valencia in 1947. She studied sculpture at the Faculty of Fine Arts of San Carlos. In 1987 she earned her doctorate in Fine Arts from the Polytechnic University of Valencia. Since 1989 she has held a position as Associate Professor in the Department of Sculpture at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Valencia
Minimalism, constructivism, and conceptual art are some of the influences that can be traced in her installations and sculptures, in which the symbolism attributed to certain materials in the line opened by Joseph Beuys is also present. She uses iron preferentially, and occasionally other materials such as rubber, wax, or glass.
Her creative process has something of recycling, a revision of multiple perspectives with respect to certain elements that allude to the forms of dwelling: stairs, ramps, corridors, elevators, bridges. Ángeles' work has something of "fragmentary enunciation"; the space is perfectly calculated and simultaneously appears marked by the sign of arbitrariness.
In her visual proposal, installations, sculptures, and multimedia works, she grants an essential value to metaphor, with a strong existential component, something made evident by obsessive ideas of emptiness, falling, imbalance, or slipping. An example of this is the series Leap into the Void (1986-1989), in which defiant levers or poles appear, forms that lead, according to the artist herself, to an "unknown and awe-inspiring territory making us vulnerable, victims of our own imaginary flight"..., and which constitute one of the most powerful nuclei within her production.
Since 1990 her works are displacements from photography, in which spaces are compressed or adopt a wavy arrangement.
