The Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Alicante (Alicante Museum of Contemporary Art) is located in the heart of the city, opposite the monumental Iglesia de Santa María (Church of Santa María). In a building of radical architecture, with gorgeous spaces that ascend in search of light, the contemporary art collections, property of the Ayuntamiento de Alicante, are displayed.
The Alicante Museum of Contemporary Art, known as the MACA, integrates in its new architecture the ancient Casa de La Asegurada (House of La Asegurada), turned into a museum since 1977 due to the generosity of the artist from Alicante Eusebio Sempere, who donated his collection of works of art to the city of Alicante.
This transcendent foundational act is the origin of this new MACA.
