Great artists, plain and simple. March 2025

On this occasion, we will focus on the figure of Kara Walker. Her work addresses themes of violence, identity, race, and sexuality in the context of the still-present psychological wound caused by the tragic legacy of slavery, presenting a critical vision of the historical past and examining racial and gender stereotypes in our current society.

Her work is found in numerous museums and public collections, such as: The Museum of Modern Art, New York; Tate Modern, London; Centre Pompidou, Paris; Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; Deutsche Bank, Frankfurt; Museo Nazionale delle Art del XXI Secolo, MAXXI, Rome; The Menil Collection, Houston; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; British Museum, London; Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto; Kunstmuseum Basel; Magasin III, Stockholm; Musee d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris; Museum voor Moderne Kunst, Netherlands; Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, DC; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York.

About the work of...Esther Ferrer

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on
Great artists, plain and simple. February 2025

On this occasion, and on the occasion of the closure of the temporary exhibition, we will focus on Esther Ferrer, a radical and independent artist. After a long career of more than forty years developing systematic, rigorous and methodical work, all her work is reduced to just one: Esther Ferrer. She is the work, her body, her self-portraits, her voice, her ideas, her words.

Born in San Sebastián in 1937, she holds a degree in Social Sciences and Journalism and studied Art in Paris, the city where she has lived and worked since 1973. In her native city, she created, together with other artists, a workshop of free expression. She is also the driving force behind the establishment of an experimental school in Elorrio. Likewise, her teaching activity has led her to teach classes at the Fine Arts schools in Canada, France, Italy and Spain, among others.

In collaboration with: Consorci de Museus de Generalitat Valenciana.

Workshop visit with vermouth around the work of the artists in the collections. Guided tour by Explicarte

Traditionally, women have been considered second-class citizens in the world of culture. This position was based on a statistic supported by a very limited number of women who had excelled in the field of literature, thought and the plastic arts. This idea crumbles in the face of a simple consideration: the reduced opportunities they had to develop their personal talents.

About the work of...Gabriele Münter

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on
Great artists, plain and simple. January 2025

On this occasion, we will direct our attention to Gabriele Münter, one of the founders of The Blue Rider (Der Blaue Reiter), the legendary group of expressionist artists based in Munich. In her works, with precise lines and intense colors, the German painter immerses the viewer in her private world. As a result of her keen eye, lovers, friends, everyday objects, landscapes, or herself are reduced to their essence.

Accompanied by the Explicarte team, we invite you to participate in this workshop visit with vermouth, a space for meeting and learning where we will recognize and celebrate the impact of women artists who, like Judith Scott, broke barriers and left a unique legacy in the history of art.

Collaborates: Consortium of Museums of the Valencian Community.

We analyze the life and work of....František Kupka

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on
Shall we talk about art? September 2025

On this occasion we will focus on František Kupka, one of the pioneers of abstraction. His abstract works emerged from a basis of realism, but later evolved into pure abstract art. We propose a new way of relating to the museum with the aim of consolidating and promoting mutual enrichment and an exchange of experiences. Through these guided visits and actions, we want to reflect on concepts and ideas that will emerge throughout the visit, relating the works from the MACA collections to their context, in a transversal way, analyzing current reality and how artists represent their experiences by creating a collective memory through the great diversity of contemporary languages that have emerged in the 20th and 21st centuries. For curious adults. Led by Explicarte. With the support of the Consorci de Museus de la Generalitat Valenciana.

We analyze the life and work of....Manuel Hernández Mompó

Shall we talk about art? January 2025

On this occasion we will focus on Manuel Hernández Mompó. He was one of the most prominent figures of the Spanish generation of the nineteen fifties linked to abstraction. Without belonging to any group or adhering to any style, he began investigating in the field of figuration, evolved towards abstract art and ended up finding his own language.

We propose a new way of relating to the museum with the aim of consolidating and promoting mutual enrichment and an exchange of experiences.
