This tenth edition is divided into six sessions created from six works from the 20th Century Art Collection. In the proposed activities, participants will dialogue, converse, and share experiences around art. In addition to carrying out different creative processes in order to provoke REMINISCENCES.

The different sessions are structured in two activities: a visit to the MACA to learn about singular artists from the 20th Century Art Collection, as well as to elicit reactions, reflections, conversations, or activities around art and artists, but also the sensations and emotions that the works may provoke. The second activity will be carried out within the same month at the AFA center in Alicante, where what was worked on during the museum visit is recalled and activated, provoking reminiscence.

These practices will be accompanied by a box with materials and a notebook with images, texts, and activities, which will try to recall situations experienced in the past and awaken different emotions in the present: all through the works of the different artists represented in the museum. These proposals will serve as a guide for AFA, Alicante professionals to develop the creative activities.

Reminiscences. Art and Culture Against Alzheimer's 2024

In this twelfth edition of the program "Reminiscences: Art and Culture Against Alzheimer's," music will play a central role in the artistic experience we offer to participants.

In this year dedicated to exploring the connections between art and memory, we have carefully selected works that not only capture the essence of art itself, but are also enriched by the magic and influence of music. The choice to incorporate music in this edition is based on the growing understanding of how sensory experiences, particularly music, can trigger memories and emotions in those affected by Alzheimer's.

The combination of visual expressiveness and the powerful influence of music will provide us with a unique opportunity to stimulate memory and foster emotional connection.

Throughout this edition, we will guide participants on a journey in which visual and musical harmony merge, providing a space in which creativity and memory intertwine in a meaningful way. This approach aims not only to offer artistic stimulation but also to contribute to the emotional and cognitive well-being of those who participate in the "Reminiscences" program.

The selection of specific works for this edition has been carefully designed considering the relationship between visual art and music. For example, the connection between music and surrealist poetry will be explored in the context of Joan Miró's work, with outstanding composers such as Erik Satie, Edgar Varèse, Johann Sebastian Bach and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, all of whom were favorites of the artist. Likewise, we will immerse ourselves in the rhythm present in Astor Piazzolla's Argentine tango to understand the influence on Julio Le Parc's work.

The creation of Rafel Canogar will offer us the opportunity to explore post-war music in Spain, reflecting the tensions and restrictions of the era, marked by the cultural and political repression of the Franco regime. The work of Rogelio López Cuenca will transport us to the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s through advertisements, highlighting the connection between art and the culture of the time. Miquel Barceló, for his part, has a close relationship with jazz and African music, both of which have marked influence on his artistic production. Finally, the work of Soledad Sevilla will invite us to explore the fusion of music and geometric abstraction, skillfully guiding us through the musical piece "Recuerdos de la Alhambra," performed by composer and guitarist Narciso Yepes.

Reminiscences. Art and Culture Against Alzheimer's 2025

In this thirteenth edition of the program "Reminiscences: Art and Culture Against Alzheimer's," music once again occupies a prominent place, becoming the central axis of the artistic experience offered to participants. This year, dedicated to deepening the connections between art, memory, and emotions, presents a selection of works that not only reflect the essence of art, but are also enriched and transformed by the magic of music.

The decision to integrate music in this edition responds to the growing recognition of its capacity to evoke memories and awaken emotions in people with Alzheimer's. Sensory experiences, especially musical ones, have proven to be powerful tools for stimulating memory and fostering emotional connections. This year, we seek to maximize that unique relationship between visual expressiveness and the emotional impact of music, offering an enriching and meaningful experience.

During this edition, we will accompany participants on a journey where visual arts and music intertwine to create a space full of creativity, sensory stimuli, and connections with their inner world. This approach not only seeks to awaken their artistic interest, but also to provide concrete benefits to their emotional and cognitive well-being, in line with the fundamental objectives of "Reminiscences." The selection of works for this year has been meticulously designed to highlight the relationship between the visual and the sonic.

Each piece chosen has been conceived as a bridge between these two disciplines, with the purpose of enriching the sensory experience of participants and, at the same time, fostering the activation of their memories.

Reminiscences. Art and Culture Against Alzheimer's

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on

Reminiscences. Art and Culture Against Alzheimer's was born in 2012 as a pioneering project in the Valencian Community, with the idea of turning the MACA into a space where people with Alzheimer's and their companions could embark on a journey through art and culture, rediscovering their imagination and creative potential. The aim is to involve Alzheimer's patients and their companions in a journey through art and culture, rediscovering their imagination and creative potential.

The visits tour the permanent collections exhibition and are carefully designed for enjoyment and understanding, as well as to encourage reactions, reflections, conversations, or activities around art and artists, but also around the sensations and emotions they may provoke. Furthermore, this project documents the evolution and impact the program has on participants and a subsequent evaluation of its effectiveness.

The sessions are structured with a visit to the MACA that tours either the permanent collections exhibition: specific works, itineraries around a theme, artistic fields or trends, singular artists, etc., or tours the temporary exhibitions. The sessions are designed like the in-person ones for enjoyment and understanding, to encourage reactions, reflections, conversations, or activities around art and artists. Likewise, these sessions are accompanied by a creative activity where what has been worked on is recalled and activated, triggering reminiscence.

This proposal invites participants to explore the 20th Century Art Collection, where they will discover stories, characters, and places connected with the artworks. The different materials and techniques that artists employed in their creations will be explored, with the aim of having the works serve as a starting point for establishing connections with the interests and daily lives of the participants.

As part of the experience, an artistic workshop called "The Inner Chaos" is offered, which provides the opportunity to experiment with the materials and techniques explored during the tour. This workshop is designed to foster creativity and personal expression, allowing each participant to create their own artwork inspired by the collection. In addition to developing artistic skills, the workshop seeks to strengthen self-confidence and promote the integration of participants, respecting and valuing the diversity of their abilities and perspectives. Through the informalist technique, participants will explore their creativity by creating a work that reflects their emotions and personal stories, working with textures, colors, and abstract forms to express ideas and feelings in a free and spontaneous manner.
