We analyze the life and work of....Juan Genovés

Shall we talk about art? June 2023

On this occasion we will focus on Juan Genovés. Remembering him means talking about painting and social and political commitment.

We propose a new way of relating to the museum with the aim of consolidating and promoting mutual enrichment and an exchange of experiences.

With these guided visits and actions we want to reflect on concepts and ideas that will emerge throughout the visit, relating the works from the MACA collections to their context, in a transversal way, analyzing current reality and how artists represent their experiences by creating a collective memory through the great diversity of contemporary languages that have emerged in the 20th and 21st centuries.

For restless adults. In charge of Explicarte. With the support of the Consorci de Museus de la Generalitat.

About the work of...Esther Ferrer

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on
Great artists, plain and simple. November 2024

Traditionally, women have been considered second-class citizens in the world of culture. This position was based on a statistic supported by a very limited number of women who had excelled in the field of literature, thought, and the plastic arts. This idea crumbles in the face of a simple consideration: the reduced opportunities they had to develop their personal talents.

On this occasion, we will focus on Esther Ferrer, a radical and independent artist. After a long career spanning more than forty years developing systematic, rigorous, and methodical work, her entire body of work is reduced to one: Esther Ferrer. She is the work, her body, her self-portraits, her voice, her ideas, her words.

Born in San Sebastián in 1937, she holds a degree in Social Sciences and Journalism and studied Art in Paris, the city where she has resided and worked since 1973. In her native city, she created, together with other artists, a workshop for free expression. She is also the driving force behind the establishment of an experimental school in Elorrio. Likewise, her teaching activity has led her to teach classes at the Schools of Fine Arts in Canada, France, Italy, and Spain, among others.

Collaborates: Consortium of Museums of the Valencian Regional Government.

Workshop visit with vermouth around the work of female artists from the collections. Guided tour by Explicarte

Traditionally, women have been considered second-class citizens in the world of culture. This position was based on a statistic supported by a very limited number of women who had stood out in the field of literature, thought, and the plastic arts. This idea crumbles in the face of a simple consideration: the reduced opportunities they had to develop their personal talents.

On this occasion, we will focus on Lee Krasner, an influential artist of abstract expressionism in the second half of the twentieth century.

Krasner studied with Hans Hofmann starting in 1937. Hofmann showed Krasner the work of Picasso, Matisse, and other European abstract painters, which had a great influence on her. In 1940, she began to exhibit with a group of North American painters, establishing abstract expressionism.

About the work of...Hilma Af Klint

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on
Great artists, plain and simple. February 2024

Workshop visit with vermouth around the work of artists from the collections. Guided tour by Explicarte

On this occasion, we will direct our attention to the extraordinary artist Hilma Af Klint. She was born on October 26, 1862 in Solna, a municipality north of Stockholm, in Sweden. Daughter of Mathilda Sonntag and Admiral Victor af Klint, the young woman grew up alongside her three siblings within a wealthy family with broad intellectual interests. From an early age, Hilma had access to her parents' large library and immersed herself in readings that awakened her curiosity and thirst for knowledge.

Five years before Kandinski published 'Concerning the Spiritual in Art', a book in which he laid the foundations of non-figurative art, Swedish painter Hilma af Klint had already created her first abstract paintings, thus anticipating one of the most important artistic movements of the early twentieth century.

Hilma af Klint was part of the first generation of European women who were able to study in art schools, but, despite acquiring success as a naturalist painter that allowed her to live from her landscape and portrait paintings, the fact of being a woman left her out of the artistic groups of the time. Although they had shared classrooms, painters continued to believe that creation was an activity that belonged to them and women should dedicate their time to other tasks such as, for example, forming a family.
