Pablo Palazuelo is one of the key figures in Spanish art of the second half of the twentieth century. An exceptional artist within the panorama of Spanish abstract art, not only because he is the author of a full and rich body of work in its diversity that makes him singular, but also because he departs from the general trends in which the rest of the artists of his generation were inscribed, more interested in material or gestural abstraction. His work, always meticulous and pristine, responds to a very personal geometric conception characterized by an extremely refined technique and an admirable sense of color, constants that are always present throughout his entire career.
This exhibition titled Palazuelo. Musical Calligraphies aimed to approach the artist's work from his relationship with music, exploring the intimate relationship that exists between his work, sound and silence. It allowed one to contemplate how musical language underlies the entire trajectory of the Madrid-born creator as a common denominator element. The exhibition presents works from public and private institutions, from museums and foundations as well as from private collectors who generously lent their works for this exhibition, without which it would not have been possible.

Palazuelo. Musical Calligraphies
Catalog of the traveling exhibition of Pablo Palazuelo's work selected for its relationship with music and musical language: works conceived as representations of rhythms, silences and cadences, creating singular visual scores. Exhibition curated by Alicia Ventura and Rosa Mª Castells, organized in collaboration by the CEART (Tomás y Valiente Art Center) in Fuenlabrada, Madrid, from May 9 to August 25, 2013 and the MACA. Museum of Contemporary Art in Alicante, from September 13 to December 8, 2013.
This exhibition titled Palazuelo. Musical Calligraphies aims to approach the artist's work from his relationship with music, exploring the intimate connection that exists between his work, sound, and silence. A relationship that is discovered from the earliest works created in Paris, some as evident as those written On the Staff or the sets of signs arranged in moving drawings as Forgotten Things. Also in his later compositions, rhythm, tempo, fugue, intensity, chords, timbre, and tone are essential questions… The point and the line become signs of a form of musical notation, a calligraphy that can be understood as a code and language of a primordial sound, of that music that is at the origin, that is vibration, energy that flows filling and coagulating all the spaces of the world. With this visit we aim to contemplate how musical language underlies the entire trajectory of the Madrid-born creator as a common denominator element. We address the spatial question and the role of color as a reinforcement of the materiality of space and how colors have a musical quality and a beauty that borders on emotion. In collaboration with the Explicarte Association.
