After an initial stage in which Pepe Calvo focused on black and white analog photography, his artistic practice in recent decades is inscribed in the tradition of photocollage. The artist's process consists of borrowing already existing images from all kinds of magazines and publications to compose collages that the artist scans again to obtain the final photographic copy. Some of his references are black and white cinema—as in the case of the work belonging to his "The Hidden" series and which is part of the collection—surrealism, interior spaces and pop, mixing images that come from popular culture with others from high culture, thus eliminating hierarchies. These are images often open to interpretations, stylized and enigmatic, as is also shown by his other work in the collection, "Untitled" (2004), from his "Interior after Interior" series.
