Morgan O'Hara is a conceptual artist who has been working for the last four decades in performative drawing, installation, and social practice. Her interest centers on the human experience of time and space, with LIVE TRANSMISSION, initiated in 1989, being her most ambitious series. The two drawings in the collection belong to it. These pencil drawings by O'Hara are a record, made in real time, of the vital movement of living beings (musicians, dancers, politicians, cooks, athletes, or artists, among many others). Transcending both figuration and abstraction, O'Hara draws methodically with multiple pencils and both hands, executing a direct transmission from one living being to another through graphite lines, in a seismographic manner. The drawing combines "the controlled refinement of classical drawing with the sensuality of spontaneous gesture," in the artist's words. "Arrangement 12 of 16/ Ikebana" from 1997, in the collection, is the record of the action carried out by Japanese Ken Katayama, master of the art called Ikebana, while he performs one of these floral arrangements at the New York Horticultural Society. His second drawing, "Movimento delle mani di musicisti di Trio di Parma mentre suona il 2 movimento (larghetto) da Mozart", was made at the Teatro di Brescia in May 2001.
