From the beginning of her career in the 70s until her death in 2019, the work of Lutz Bacher (a pseudonym) has focused on issues of identity, political critique, and feminist advocacy following conceptual strategies. Also part of her work is the appropriation of press images and easily identifiable found objects that are decontextualized. The result is disturbing pieces that are sometimes hermetic, which have made the artist a cult figure in contemporary creation. This piece explicitly framed by Bacher belongs to her early series called Jokes. For its creation, she appropriates images from press media, in this case a photograph of President Lyndon B. Johnson, where the artist has added a commentary laden with irony. The text is a common phrase used to describe a stupid person.
