The main media in which Canadian artist Erin Shirreff works are photography, sculpture, and video. Her research focuses on formal and spatial aspects that challenge the representation of three-dimensional objects through photography and video, in order to explore the capabilities of these two media to produce a sculptural experience, and to seek new possibilities for abstraction. The two works by Shirreff in the collection are "A.P. no2" and the diptych "Figure 2 (II)". "A.P. no2" is part of her A.P. Series in which the artist merges half of two photographs of sculptures created by her, drawing inspiration from the work of artists such as Anthony Caro or Tony Smith. The copies are then folded where the two images meet, suggesting the double page of a book. For the diptych "Figure 2(II)" Shirreff cuts and assembles photographic images of different sculptural forms to blur the lines between dimensional and three-dimensional space.
