[Antolí, Rosana]
Rosana Antolí has resided and worked in London for over a decade. Her work encompasses different artistic disciplines, including painting, performance, installation, sculpture, and drawing, with video being the visual language in which she has most ambitiously developed her research on the poetics of everyday life, patterns of movement and human action, and interaction with common objects in a recontextualized way, as can be seen in her video "Everything is Circular Until is Not" (2016), in the Collection. The artist herself has explained: "The utopian element is central to my practice, as are also the absurd and the failed nature of the actions it implies".
A fundamental aspect of Rosana's work is the approach toward the repetitive and automatic acts that make up our daily routines. In this piece, Rosana asks a group of young people to play with a large-scale hula-hoop. This thus represents an analysis of the absurd dimension of the objects that surround us. That the hoop spins, even if only for a few seconds, acquires a utopian character. The rest of the time it always falls, a failure. Failure as a symbol of our everyday life. One of Rosana's lines of work focuses on "the absurdity of existence" and on how those repetitive acts of day-to-day life can come to have such an absurd dimension. The video is planned based on small static details that remind us of the work of photographer Erwin Wurm and his series "One minute Sculpture". Sound design takes vital importance with a soundtrack influenced by Steve Reich and Laurie Anderson in terms of the use of variations and syncopated rhythms.
