[Teixidor, Jordi]
He studied between 1959 and 1964 at the Superior School of Fine Arts in Valencia. From the beginning, his painting developed within abstraction in an environment radically opposed to the realism that then predominated in Valencia's artistic milieu.
In 1966, on the occasion of the creation of the Spanish Museum of Abstract Art in Cuenca and having worked there during the first two summers, he came into contact with the generation of painters represented there.
His abstraction would evolve between minimal art and the theories of the Supports-Surfaces group, later becoming established, as a result of his stay in the United States, in a practice of painting itself with color variations that would develop in monochromatic series. The paintings are composed using a traditional technique of oil on canvas, in fields of color where structural elements do not exist or are scarce. The influence of American painting from the 1950s is notable in these works, especially that of Rothko and Newman, and it led him to move away from the informalist tendencies of Spanish abstraction.
The rigor and fidelity to that abstraction has continued to be refined even further, reaching the black series of recent years where, in large-format paintings, the use of gold color adds to the significant absence of his paintings a sense of religiosity and mysticism.
