The MACA presents a work by artist Frantisek KUPKA from the collections of the Valencian Institute of Modern Art (IVAM), within the dialogue between collections established since 2021 in the "Contexto Vanguardia" program. The work can be viewed until September 2025.
This is the sixth exhibition within "Contexto Vanguardia" which seeks to maintain a permanent dialogue between the works from the IVAM collection belonging to the avant-gardes of the first decades of the twentieth century and the works from the MACA's Twentieth Century Art Collection, so that complementary readings are established, providing support and context for some pieces that, in communication with others, strengthen their language, thus allowing visitors to enjoy artists not represented in the MACA while completing the vision of the avant-gardes. The objective is to create content and share knowledge.
Proportions / Proporciones, 1934. Oil on canvas is the work that can be seen.
The artist
Frantisek KUPKA is one of the pioneers of abstraction. Trained in Prague and Vienna, he first settled in Paris where he embraced neo-impressionism, symbolism and modernism and later, in Puteaux, relating to the cubism of the Villon brothers. His work, abstract since 1912, is full of philosophical meanings, approaches music and theories of the emergence of energy while experimenting with both forms and colors suggested by the machine, as well as with geometric, circular or reticular structures, close to Van Doesburg and Mondrian and to the Abstraction-Création group to which he belongs.
